Jupiter 21M

Jupiter 21M 200mm f4

This lens in production long time ago, this time still available as brand new from many Russian sellers. My copy also one of the latest MC version with auto and manual mode.I thought based on the pictures what I found on lensamanual.net this should be an interesting quality lens.

Original name: ЮПИТЕР-21M
Manufactured in URSS
Maximum Aperture: 1:4
Focal Length: 200 mm
Angle of View: 12°
Lens Mount: M42
Focus limit: from 1.8m
Filter size: 58mm
Weight: 980 gram

I got this lens not in good painting condition.

after doing some modification with the painting, it looks like zeiss zebra lens :-p

Very good lens optically, pretty sharp at f wide open and colors are great. Lens optical quality is comparable with other much more respected lens like Carl Zeiss Jena or Pentacon or even canon L series lenses. Bit heavy lens with almost 1 kg ! , Slow lens and the weight this the minus. You can pick up this lens for affordable price, real value for money.

Should I recommand this lens? Considering the price, and the image quality clearly yes.

Moreover, the image quality is far better than the telezoom provided as kit lens like the Canon EFS 55-250 IS or Canon EF 75-300 III USM.

But I would recommand this lens only if you plan to take time for your shots (portraiture, landscape). Otherwise (e.g. sports shots) I would recommand to buy an autofocus zoom.

An other point is important: is there enough left space in your bag for this monster?

Jupiter 37A 135mm f3.5

Jupiter was one of the classes of lenses which was produced by lens makers of the former Soviet Union. The name was probably a classification for three-group or multiple-group lens constructions which included one very thick lens element

The Jupiter-37A has a maximum aperture of f/3.5 and a focal length of 135 mm. It has an M42 screw mount. It was manufactured by KOMZ in Kazan.
This particular lens was made in 1980 and the lens barrel and case are marked with the Moscow Olympic logo

Original name: ЮПИТЕР-37A
Manufactured in URSS (CCCP) by KMZ
Maximum Aperture: 1:3,5
Focal Length: 135 mm
Angle of View: 18°
Lens Mount: M42x1
Focus limit: from 1.2m
Filter size: 52mm
Price in 1985: 100 USSR ruble

Here is a picture of the JUPITER 37A:

The lens is compact and very nice to use and to handle

Concerning the image quality I have been very surprised by this lens. Is is razor sharp even wide opened. The bokeh is very soft and natural, colors are very naturals:

JUPITER 37A is one of my favorite lenses. This lens is completely in this blog philosophy, providing awesome image quality for a very low cost.

If you are looking for a razor sharp 135mm even at full aperture, then have a look to the JUPITER 37A. It is one of the best (or the best) portrait lens I have tested
